Values

A set of values I hold, to be applied to a website

AJCOct 2, 2026

This page was not written, drafted, nor suggested by an LLM in any way.

I want to make a discussion site that is inclusive, diverse, and equitable.

I wrote these project values to try to summarize what I think the owner of a discussion site should believe in. Since that would be me, they are my values. If you are able, I would very much appreciate it if you could read these values and add a like if they are OK. If you feel like writing a comment, I would welcome it. You can also reach out to me on Bluesky.

One last note before the list. I'm autistic, and while I try to be the best person I can, I don't communicate that well to the world. I omit things, phrase things incorrectly, and cause offense because of that. I truly wish this to be a way to learn and engage with the world openly and honestly. If you have criticism, please let me know. I will try to improve. An omission in the following list is an oversight, not a statement

  • Everyone should be equal.
  • Harm to people should be minimized.
  • This site will be equitable, inclusive, and diverse.
  • This site will follow laws in the countries it is viewable in.
    • True inclusion may be at odds with countries' laws, such as the trans bathroom debacle in the UK.
    • Where legal, the site must choose inclusion over exclusion.
  • Cultural hegemony and white supremacy will be opposed from the beginning of this site.
  • Racism will be opposed, people of the world deserve a safe place on the internet.
  • Patriarchy will be opposed, women deserve a safe place on the internet.
  • Accessibility will be a top tier feature across the entire site.
    • Disabled people will be consulted on the site design and accessibility.
  • LGBTQ+ people will be included and consulted.
  • Neurodivergent people will be included and consulted.
  • Trans rights are human rights.
  • Nazis, fascists, TERFS, and other oppressors are NOT welcome.
    • If your political views are that some people deserve greater privilege, or that some suffering is OK if a minority benefit, then this site is not for you.
    • If you believe that your in-group must be protected by law but not bound by it, and that others must be bound by law but not protected by it, then this site is not for you.
  • Private accounts and discussion groups can minimize harm and should be supported.
  • Bullying and other anti-social behaviours should be discouraged by the site's design before moderation is asked to help.
  • Blacksky's work in running an inclusive service is superlative, they are the guiding star to follow.
  • This site will use LLMs as a tool to help write software.
    • LLMs will always be secondary to human decisions, guidance, creativity, and agency.
  • Human expression includes sexual content.
    • Sexual content will always be available within the law.
    • As laws stand, in late 2026, this seems to be an impossible task, but we will try our best.
    • The default view of the site will be one that is considered "safe for the family dinnertable".
    • It follows then that a "not safe for family" view will exist.
  • Harassment is unacceptable.
    • Minimizing harm includes providing features that minimize all forms of harassment.
  • The user owns their own content.
